The Oaks - Residential Treatment (3.5-3.1) FAQs


How old do I have to be to enroll in treatment? 

The Oaks at FMRS Residential Treatment serves men who are 18 years of age and older who have a substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health disorder. 

Can my children reside with me during treatment at The Oaks program? 

Unfortunately, no.  Family visitation is encouraged once time in treatment has been met.

What is the duration of The Oaks- Residential program? 

The average length of stay is determined on an individual basis and tailored to meet the needs of each specific individual. 

Do you accept Medicaid? 

WV Medicaid is accepted.  We have case managers who can assist you in getting coverage if you do not already have it.  We also accept private insurance. 

Do you have to be court ordered to treatment?

You do not have to be court ordered to treatment.  Self-referrals are always welcomed. 

Do you accept clients on medication assisted treatment (MAT)?

Yes, we can accept already established MAT clients with a physician’s order and medical records. 

Do you prescribe MAT for residential clients? 

Yes, we can prescribe Suboxone or Vivitrol.  We cannot prescribe methadone, but we will transport to the Beckley Treatment Center as needed.  All pathways to recovery are welcomed and accepted. 

I have a family member in jail who is in need of treatment.  Can I make a referral on his behalf? 

We encourage the potential client to make the referral whenever possible. However, we understand that is not always possible.  You may use the “make a referral link” to submit your referral, but we cannot schedule a bed date until the client has made written or verbal contact with us. An incarcerated loved one usually has an attorney or counselor who can assist them in making a referral as well. 

Can I have a phone? 

Phones, laptops, devices with camera or video capabilities are NOT permitted in our program.  They are often a trigger for leaving treatment against medical advice and a confidentially concern.  

Can I smoke or use tobacco? 

Residents are permitted to smoke only during designated times and in designated areas.  Vaping, electronic cigarettes, chewing tobacco and snuff are not allowed on FMRS property. Smoking cessation services are available and encouraged.

What items should I bring? 

No more than 5 changes of clothes.  A jacket and change of shoes.  Comfortable walking shoes are suggested for activities, any current medications in original bottles with physician orders, personal hygiene items, and shower shoes.  The storage is limited.

What items are prohibited?

Weapons, electronics, bedding, pillows, blankets, sheets, large sums of cash or gift cards, alcohol, illicit drugs, drug paraphernalia, clothing promoting alcohol, tobacco, or drug use, keyboard duster, explosives, hair dye, bleach, cleaning products, fireworks, tattoo material or devices, outside food and drink. 

Where will I be staying? 

The Oaks at FMRS- Residential Treatment wing is a newly renovated facility that accommodates 12 men. The facility is ADA compliant, includes 6 bedrooms (2 men per room), 4 bathrooms (2 accessible), dining hall, multipurpose room, laundry facility, offices, and kitchen. All treatment activities occur on-site.

May I have a car on property? 

No, vehicles of any kind are not permitted during your treatment.
